Committee Reports

Editor's Note: Reports from two of our standing committees follow. We will include other committee reports in future issues. Please check the T&C Website for updates on committee activities.

New Faculty Handbook:

Lynn Griffin reports that the New Faculty Handbook sponsored by our section is in the final editing stage. The following members comprise this committee:

  • Lynn Griffin, North Carolina A&T State University, Chair
  • Penne Ainsworth, University of Wyoming
  • Rose Marie Bukics, Lafayette College
  • Laura R. Ingraham, North Carolina State University
  • Leslie Kren, University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee
  • Kathleen E. Sinning, Western Michigan University
  • Monte R. Swain - Brigham Young University

The handbook includes essays and insights from many notable colleagues, including (to name only a few) Steve Albrecht, Anthony Atkinson, Thomas Dyckman and Bob Jensen. The Executive Committee is now arranging for printing and distribution of the handbook, with the first copies going to attendees of the New Faculty Consortium. If you are a new faculty member and did not attend the New Faculty Consortium this year or last, use the feedback link on our website to request a copy.

The Executive Committee appreciates very much the fine work of this committee.

Shared Experiences:

Paul Solomon reports that Shared Experiences panels have been placed at six regionals and that another is planned for the annual meeting in Atlanta. The list of participants on these panels is impressive indeed. They include Dick Baker, Bill Bentz, Cliff Brown, Chuck Carpenter, Araya Debessay, Bill Ferrara, Jack Grey, Roger Hermanson, Charles Horngren, Tony Krzystofik, Roland Madison, Gary Previts, Ann Pushkin, Charlie Smith, Ray Stevens, Mary Stone, Gary Sundem, Milton Usry, Richard Vangereersch, Jerry Weinstein, and Pete Wilson (with apologies to anyone who is also on board, but inadvertently left off this list). Several of the panels also will have added members by the time you read this.

Many of the panels will include a reference to a "Balanced Scorecard to Faculty Roles: Teaching, Research and Service." These panels should be reason enough for members to want to attend the regional meeting in their area. Please consult the Association website for more complete information on regional meeting programs and registration. You will find information about T&C activities on our newly-designed website. Thanks to Paul and his committee for their fine efforts.
