| I hope you, your families, friends, colleagues, and students are safe after the tragic events of September 11th. Borough of Manhattan Community College lost a classroom building, Fiterman Hall, when one of the World Trade Center buildings collapsed on it. BMCC was closed until October 1st when all classes resumed, many in new locations, some in trailers. It has been difficult for all of us to return to what was our normal routine but we must follow the lead of New York City and our colleagues at BMCC and return to our lives and activities, or the bad guys win. In that vein, I am honored to be serving as Chair of the Two-Year Section this year with Barbara Croteau, Santa Rosa Junior College, as Vice Chairperson, Christine Kloezeman, Glendale Community College, as Secretary/Editor, and Susan Crosson, Santa Fe Community College as the Coordinator of Regional Representatives/Officer-at-Large. If you would like to participate in our regional or annual programs, contribute to the newsletter, or contact any of the officers or regional coordinators, a listing is provided in this newsletter. The Annual Meeting in Atlanta was the start of a revitalization of our Section. We had three unique sessions and a stimulating luncheon with the AAA President-Elect G. Peter Wilson as our guest speaker. During his village-hall- type discussion, Pete suggested we sponsor local one-day workshops or conferences to reach out to community college and other faculty that do not attend annual or regional meetings of the AAA. Pete announced he would personally match up to $2,000 raised or from the Section for this purpose. At this time, local workshops in both New York and California are being planned for Spring 2002. If anyone is interested in helping plan or participate in these workshops or in donating funds, please contact me. Thank you for being a member of the Two-Year Section.
