The American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants (AICPA) has bestowed its 1999 Distinguished
Achievement in Accounting Education Award on R. Glen Berryman,
MBA, CPA, PhD, CIA. The award was announced at the spring meeting
of the AICPA Governing Council.
Currently professor emeritus of accounting at
the University of Minnesota, Dr. Berryman taught at the University
for 37 years until his retirement in 1995. During that time, he
served three separate terms as chair of the department. He has
also served both the national and state accounting profession in a
number of capacities, is the recipient of various teaching awards,
and has authored many scholarly articles and book reviews.
After earning his undergraduate and graduate
degrees from Northwestern University, Dr. Berryman received his
doctorate from the University of Illinois after qualifying as a
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Illinois and Minnesota. He
later qualified as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) in
Minnesota.
About the AICPA Distinguished Achievement
in Accounting Education Award
The AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award
is designed to recognize full-time college accounting educators
distinguished for excellence in teaching and for national
prominence in the accounting profession. It has the dual function
of extending profession-wide recognition to the recipient as well
as promoting role models in academe. Nominations are submitted
annually by state CPA societies and individual AICPA members other
than themselves.
