Wiley Accounting:
Technology That Powers Education!

Helping Teachers Teach and Students Learn!
The Wiley mission of helping teachers teach and students learn doesn’t stop with traditional media such as textbooks and software. As your partner in the education process, we carefully evaluate new technologies, select the media that truly enhance the classroom experience, and create effective tools for you to use with our textbooks.

The World Wide Web has become an indispensable tool for teaching and learning. We have a focused plan to help you use the World Wide Web effectively. Here are some examples of the exciting web-based products and services that support our mission.

The Wiley College Web Site
The Wiley College Web Site (http://www.wiley.com/college) features a wealth of information and tools to support your teaching:

  • An online catalog with an overview of all the Wiley publications in your field
  • An online customer service center, complete with secure ordering and technical support
  • An email notification service that keeps you abreast of the latest publications, solutions to teaching challenges, and special offers in your field
  • Newsletters for selected disciplines
  • Information on contacting your local Wiley Representative

W.A.V.E. Sites
Wiley texts are supported by information-rich web sites—identified by the W.A.V.E. logo—that go beyond the borders of the book: Many sites feature downloadable material to assist both instructors and students in using the text in the course, including:

— Digital Instructor’s Manuals
— PowerPoint slides
— Computerized Test Banks
— Online Solutions Manuals
(NOTE: sensitive material designed for instructors only is always protected by a secured password system)
— interactive exercises that use the World Wide Web as a research and experiential tool
— online testing and diagnostics for students

Course Management on the Web
One of the most exciting things about the World Wide Web is the opportunity it provides to create an online community for your class. We evaluate course management software as it becomes available, and provide our content in a format that can be adapted to a variety of systems. We also prepare selected content for specific systems. For example, a number of our textbooks for next year will feature specially prepared content that is preloaded into WebCT. Here are some of the features you’ll experience with WebCT:

  • The system is accessed using any Internet browser software. Only you and your system administrator will be able to administer or edit the system. Your students will log on using passwords that you have set up.
  • The system provides a powerful link between you and your students, even when they are not in the classroom. You can set up chat rooms and schedule regular sessions, and encourage students to contact each other over email.
  • The heart of an online course manager is testing. Sophisticated online self-tests and diagnostic systems can help students gauge their progress and identify areas of weakness.
  • You can administer and assign student passwords, delete or enable individual student access, and in general control the entire environment.

Visit the Wiley web site (www.wiley.com/college) for more information on products we are developing for WebCT.

If you would like more details about our approach to technology in the classroom, or if you have any suggestions, recommendations, or requests, please contact your local Wiley Representative.
