Minutes from the ABO Business Meeting October 21, 2005
At the ABO Business Meeting recently held at the ABO Research Conference in Atlanta, Chair Stacy Kovar (Kansas State University) updated conference participants on a number of issues facing the section:
- Professor Kovar noted that the ABO Section was doing well financially and confirmed that the Section was continuing to move toward making Behavioral Research in Accounting a biannual journal.
- Planning for next year's 2006 ABO Research Conference continues to go smoothly under the watchful eye of 2006 Research Conference Program Chair Anne Magro (University of Oklahoma). Site locations for the 2006 Conference have been narrowed to Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington, depending on the reasonableness of hotel rates and meeting rooms.
- The Executive Committee is already in the planning stages for the 2007 Conference and requested feedback on several locations, including Boston, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Montreal. In a straw poll of participants, Boston appeared to be the clear cut favorite. The executive committee will determine whether sufficient, reasonable hotels are available.
- 2006 marks the ABO's Section's 25th anniversary. Events are being planned to commemorate the occasion at the AAA Annual Meeting in August, 2006 in Washington, DC.
- Professor Kovar concluded her remarks by thanking the 2004-2005 ABO Section Officers for their service, including outgoing ABO Chair Charlie Bailey (University of Memphis), 2004-2006 Secretary Treasurer Anne Magro (University of Oklahoma), 2005 Research Conference Program Chair Lynn Hannan (Georgia State University), and 2005 Annual Meeting Program Chair Jennifer Joe (Georgia State University).
- Professor Kovar also welcomed new section officers: Chair-Elect Tim Louwers (James Madison University), 2005-2007 Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Dreike Almer (Portland State University), and newsletter editor Cynthia Blanthorne (UNC-Charlotte).
