Artificial Intelligence/Emerging Technologies

Objectives
The Artificial Intelligence/Emerging Technologies Section strives to encourage application of the techniques of these two areas to accounting research, teaching and practice. Artificial intelligence includes the subfields of knowledge-based systems, neural networks, and heuristic problem solving; emerging technologies include (among others) the Internet, the World Wide Web, electronic commerce, work-group and work-flow technology, and interactive multimedia. More specific objectives for the section are:

  1. To encourage research in emerging technologies and artificial intelligence:
    (a) by identifying areas of accounting in need of exploration with the methods of these two disciplines,
    (b) by facilitating the exchange of ideas and findings in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies among accounting scholars, and
    (c) by providing presentation and publication opportunities for accounting researchers in these fields.
  2. To encourage educational innovation and to improve accounting instruction:
    (a) with the development of AI-based teaching methods and tools, and
    (b) with the application of emerging technologies to accounting education.
  3. To provide opportunities for interchange of ideas in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies among accounting academics and business practitioners in public, corporate, and not-for-profit accounting.
