Professionalism and Ethics Committee

AAA Statement of Responsibilities

Charge:

To acquaint accounting academics with ways and means of inculcating in students the centrality of professional and ethical behavior in their accounting careers, and to stimulate an interest among academics to include this dimension in their teaching.

To encourage and support accounting ethics education and scholarship in universities, and more broadly to set a tone for instilling a greater sense of professionalism and ethical conduct in the practice and teaching of accounting. Specifically:

  1. Develop an annotated bibliography of the literature exemplifying professionalism and ethical conduct that could be considered by academics for use in sensitizing students to the value of principled behavior in all aspects of professional life.
  2. Encourage the development of suitable forums for bringing to the attention to academics and students the centrality of professional and ethic conduct in an accounting career, including the desirability and practicability of incorporating appropriate teaching materials in an accounting curriculum.
  3. Continue to offer the Symposium on Ethics Research in Accounting in conjunction with the AAA annual meeting.
  4. Provide a progress report to the Executive Committee liaison person in time for inclusion in the agenda book for each Executive Committee meeting.
