American Accounting Association

2007–2008 AAA TASK FORCE COMMITTEES

ENVIRONMENTAL SCANNING TASK FORCE
TASK FORCE COMMITTEE

Charge:

The Task Force will serve as an advisory group supporting the Executive Committee's (EC) responsibility for Association strategic planning by providing information, trends and issues for EC consideration. Specifically, the task force will provide information from identifying, scanning and monitoring important environmental trends, elements and issues which affect the Association and its members, and by assessing the gap between environmental trends and Association activities. The TF will assist in the agenda planning and preparation for the annual Executive Committee June retreat.

As the US and other countries are increasingly moving toward convergence of related accounting practices reflecting globalization of markets, accounting standards, auditing standards, enforcement mechanisms, educational approaches, etc., the charge is to monitor and consider the developments around these globalization issues.

Membership:

Committee members will be appointed annually by the President.

Meetings:

Funding for two in person meetings will be provided.

Responsibilities:

The environmental analysis should be set in the context of the AAA’s current strategic priorities:

  • Membership Growth
  • Membership Fulfillment
  • Creation of AAA Commons
  • Indicate implications for strategic relationships
  • After scanning the environment, prepare a roadmap or blueprint outlining how AAA can construct a long-run process to navigate globalization and provide education about international issues.
  • Identify the potential “milestones” in this process and provide guidance about how the AAA can facilitate education about matters such as IFRS, principles based accounting and related tax, auditing and accounting issues.
  • Provide input to the Executive Committee on a timely basis and in advance of the annual strategic planning session to be held in Dallas, TX in June 2008.
