COMPETITIVE MANUSCRIPT AWARD COMMITTEE

Charge:

This committee carries out the selection process for the Competitive Manuscript Award, observing the following points in rating the manuscripts: subject matter interest, depth of research, contribution to knowledge, and organization of subject matter.

Structure and Processes:
  1. Membership: The committee should consist of five members plus a voting chair appointed by the AAA President. Care should be taken to be sure the committee includes one member knowledgeable in the field of quantitative analysis, and another knowledgeable in behavioral science.
  2. Meetings: This committee meets as needed.
  3. Responsibilities:
    1. Select award recipients based on award criteria.
    2. Work with the Executive Director to coordinate mailing an announcement of the contest to the Chair of accounting departments in business schools holding AACSB accreditation.
    3. Ensure that a call for submissions announcement is included in Accounting Education News, on the AAA website, and in multi-topic mass emails.
    4. If there are more than three outstanding papers submitted, the Chair should advise the Annual Meeting Program Chair of the authors and paper topics for possible inclusion in the Annual Meeting program.
    5. When the winner is chosen on or before May 15th, the Chair will notify the AAA President and Executive Director. The AAA President then sends a letter congratulating the winner, copying the Executive Director and Committee Chair.
    6. The Chair will send a notice to the Executive Director so the non-winners can be notified and awards can be prepared for the winners.
    7. The Chair of the committee will present the award(s) during the Annual Meeting.
    8. The Chair prepares a final report to the Executive Committee Liaison, AAA President, and Executive Director regarding accomplishments or modifications.
