2008–2009 AAA COMMITTEES
APLG/AAA ADVOCACY COMMITTEE
Charge:
This group will serve as an advocate on behalf of the academic accounting community to constituencies that have the opportunity to influence the quality and effectiveness of accounting education. The objective of the group is to coordinate the communication of information, policies, and/or recommendations related to issues that could have a significant impact on accounting education. Advocacy issues will be developed each spring and recommended to the Executive Committee of the AAA during the summer.
This committee will then coordinate during the following academic year the development of high quality materials to communicate critical information, policies, and/or recommendations to relevant constituencies. These constituencies include, but are not limited to, accounting faculty, business school deans, university administrators, companies and firms that hire accounting graduates, accrediting organizations, policy-makers, and professional accounting organizations.
Membership:
New committee members are appointed annually by the President.
Meetings:
This committee meets as needed.
Responsibilities:
For the 2008-2009 academic year, this committee will focus on the following issues. Subcommittees will assist in this process as indicated below, with their efforts coordinated by the Advocacy Committee.
- Shortage of accounting Ph.D.s (Doctoral Advocacy Subcommittee)
- Accounting Faculty Demographic Profile
- Trends in Business Schools that Significantly Impact Resources and Commitments to Accounting Education
- Accounting Research Issues (Research Advocacy Subcommittee)
- The Chair prepares and sends a progress report twice every term-year, with deadlines of October 29th 2008 and March 4th 2009, to the Executive Committee Liaison, AAA President, and Executive Director regarding accomplishments or modifications.
