Distinguished Contribution to Accounting Literature Award
Committee - Selection Committee

Purpose:
To recognize research of exceptional merit that meets some of the following criteria:
  • Uniqueness and magnitude of contribution to accounting education, practice and/or future accounting research originality and innovative content; clarity and organization of exposition; soundness and appropriateness of methodology.  The selection process shall consider the breadth of accounting research in terms of topic areas and methods.
  • Nominated items must have been published more than five years prior to the award but not more than 15 years prior to the award. Papers that have already been recognized with a Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature Award are not eligible for the Distinguished Contributions Award.

Frequency: 
At least one recipient each year

Process:
Nominations are to be submitted by February 15 to the Chair of the Screening Committee for the Notable and Distinguished Contributions Awards, either by email or regular mail.  Each nomination must be accompanied by a brief supporting statement (no more than 300 words) summarizing reasons for the nomination that are consistent with the award selection criteria.  The Screening Committee provides a list of top nominees to the Selection Committee by March 15. The Selection Committee makes the final recommendation to the Executive Committee by June 1. At the time of implementation of this new award, the Screening Committee for the Notable Contributions to the Accounting Literature Award will be amended as follows:

  1. The name and charge of the Screening Committee shall include screening  for both the Notable Contribution and the Distinguished Contribution award. Note that the Selection committees for the two awards will be separate committees.
  2. The membership of the Screening Committee shall include a representative from each of the AAA Sections The AAA will seek to identify a funding source for a cash award, at which time the amount accompanying this award will be determined.  Until a separate funding source is identified, the AAA will fund a cash award in an amount equal to the Notable Contirbutions cash award.
