2009–2010 AAA COMMITTEES
Competitive Manuscript Award Committee
Charge:
Carry out the selection process for the Competitive Manuscript Award. Specifically:
- The following points shall be observed when rating the manuscripts: subject matter interest, depth of research, contribution to knowledge, and organization of subject matter.
- Provide a final report to the AAA President, the Executive Committee liaison and Executive Director in time to be included with the agenda for each Executive Committee meeting.
Membership:
The Competitive Manuscript Award Committee is made up of five members plus a voting chair appointed by the AAA President. Care should be taken to be sure the committee includes one member knowledgeable in the field of quantitative analysis, and another knowledgeable in behavioral science.
Meetings:
This committee meets as needed.
Responsibilities:
- At the first part of October the AAA Awards Coordinator (Arlene Oliver) will assist with an email announcement of the Competitive Manuscript Award to the Chair of Accounting Departments.
- The AAA Awards Coordinator will ensure the call for submission page is updated by the beginning of September.
- AAA Awards Coordinator will ensure that a call for submissions announcement is included in:
- Accounting Education News, Fall and Winter
- On the AAA website, (alternating each AAA award submission announcement on front page of website until the submission deadline)
- Multi-topic mass emails, (alternating each AAA award submission announcement so they will all be included in each multi-topic email until the submission deadline)
- Submissions for this award are collected electronically. All personal information from the submission is removed when staff posts the submission online. The Awards Coordinator will send the viewing information to the Committee Chair within one week of the January 31st deadline.
- The committee will select award recipients based on award criteria.
- The Chair will notify the AAA staff of the winner on or before April 15th. The Awards Coordinator will reply back to the chair with the name and affiliation of the winner. The Awards Coordinator will notify the AAA President, Executive Director and Executive Committee Liaison of the winner.
- The AAA President will send a congratulatory email/letter to the winner, copying the Executive Director and Committee Chair.
- The Awards Coordinator will notify the non-winners letting them know their paper was not chosen but they are welcome to submit it for consideration in the Accounting Review.
- If there are more than three outstanding papers submitted, the Chair should advise the AAA Awards Coordinator of the authors and paper topics for possible inclusion in the Annual Meeting program. The Awards Coordinator will be in contact with the Annual Meeting Program Chair to make the arrangements.
- The Awards Coordinator will prepare the award which will be presented by the Chair of the committee at the 2010 Annual Meeting.
- The Director of Communications will notify the committee Chair and Awardee(s) with onsite annual meeting presentation instructions.
- The Chair will write a short article (200 words or less) to be included in the Fall Accounting Education News. This article should be sent to the Awards Coordinator awards@aaahq.org no later than June 1st.
- The Chair prepares and sends a progress report twice every term-year, with deadlines of October 23rd 2008 and February 26th2009, to the Executive Committee Liaison, AAA President, and Executive Director regarding accomplishments or modifications.
