By-Laws Committee
Charge
- The primary function of the By-Laws Committee is to review, analyze, and recommend any proposed changes of the by-laws to the Executive Committee.
- The Committee will revise By-Laws in accordance with legal requirements.
Membership
- The By-Laws Committee is comprised of the AAA Past President in a one-year term.
- The AAA President will appoint three additional members annually, each with a one-year term.
Meetings
- The committee meets as needed.
Responsibilities
- The By-Laws Committee reviews the following:
- Existing By-Laws of the Association including those from the Sections and Regions,
- Previous committee reports and other important background material, and
- Publication issues to determine if they meet the current needs of the American Accounting Association.
- Recommends to the Executive Committee any revisions where conflicts exist or other changes are needed.
- Analyze any proposed changes in the By-Laws coming from other sources and recommend to the Executive Committee changes in form or issues that are not anticipated by such proposals.
- The Chair will have the opportunity three times every term-year to prepare and send a progress report which will be available for the Executive Committee to review at their next meeting. This report should include accomplishments and suggested modifications and should be sent to the AAA President, the committee’s Executive Committee Liaison, and staff liaison, Barbara Gutierrez (barbara.gutierrez@aaahq.org).
