Annual Meeting Program Advisory Committee

Charge
Assist in the preparation of the Annual Meeting program. Specifically:

  • Assist the President and Executive Director in developing the concurrent portion of the technical program for the 2012 Annual Meeting in Washington, DC.
  • Coordinate with AAA staff to implement electronic submission and review procedures.
  • Provide advice and consultation to the President concerning the plenary and luncheon speakers for the 2012 Annual Meeting.
  • Evaluate the process by which the content of the Annual Meeting and, particularly, the concurrent sessions is determined and provide advice and consultation to the Board of Directors with regard to future Annual Meeting programs.
  • Evaluate the way in which the concurrent sessions are conducted and provide advice and consultation to the Board of Directors with regard to future Annual Meeting programs.
  • The three teams will coordinate with the Chair and Chair-Elect on program matters as outlined in the Annual Meeting program committee structural design document.

  • The Program Chair serves a two-year term, beginning as Chair-Elect (as soon as identified by President Elect Nominee).

Responsibilities

  • The Program Chair works with the President to coordinate the Annual Meeting overall by:
    • Developing the conference theme.
    • Shaping a program supporting the association's strategic vision concerning the following priorities:
      • Membership growth
      • AAACommons
      • Member Fulfillment
      • Strategic Relationships
      • Governance and Structure
    • Planning for plenary speakers/events
    • Planning At-Large Panel/Topic Discussions
    • Addressing emerging issues/topics
    • Working with the President and staff to coordinate area teams
    • Including/training the Chair-Elect and President-Elect
  • The Chair works with AAA staff on overall coordination of the program by:
    • Keeping the planning process consistent with the program planning timeline.
    • Coordinating any special events.
  • The Chair will have the opportunity three times every term-year to prepare and send a progress report which will be available for the Board of Directors to review at their next meeting. This report should include accomplishments and suggested modifications and should be sent to the AAA President, the committee's Board of Directors Liaison, and staff liaison, Barbara Gutierrez (barbara.gutierrez@aaahq.org).

Strategic Relationship Events Team

Membership

  • New team members are appointed annually by the AAA President.
  • The team includes at least one team leader in order to manage involvement from different strategic partners.

Meeting

  • The team meets as needed.

Responsibilities

  • The Strategic Relationship Events Team coordinates the Annual Meeting program sessions which are designed to involve leaders of strategic relationship organizations in events that are focused on areas of strategic interest to the AAA and are consistent with the conference theme. The goal of these program sessions is to create involvement opportunities that meet both the interest of the AAA and those of our strategic partners.
  • The Strategic Relationship Events Team develops and maintains the contacts directory of strategic relationship organizations.

Membership

  • The Teaching and Learning Events Team is made up of a team leader and at least three members.
  • Members should represent diverse schools and should be recognized as having significant interest and expertise in teaching and learning in accounting.
  • Members should also be interested in the strategic mission of teaching and learning events held during the meeting.
  • New team members are appointed annually by the AAA President.

Responsibilities

  • Assign reviewers and coordinate the acceptance of papers for their Sections.
  • Complete tasks in the submissions database according to the timeline.
  • Assemble accepted papers into Concurrent Sessions and assign moderators and discussants.
  • Identify papers for the New Scholar Session and assign a senior faculty mentor to the accepted papers.
  • Identify papers for the Research Interaction Sessions.
  • Communicate with the Program Chair-Elect and the leadership of the Section groups.
