Web and Other Electronic Publications
The AAA including its Sections and Regions uses the Internet to promote
worldwide excellence in accounting instruction, research, and practice, and to
assist in association management and governance.
AAA staff offer electronic (Web) posting of relevant materials by Sections
and Regions. Services range from publicizing activities, to preparing
individual notices, to maintaining an entire Section or Region web site. Sample
items are announcements, calls for papers, award announcements, calls for
nominations, meeting materials, lists of officers, committee chairs, etc. Many
electronic services (e.g., meeting registration) are offered without charge;
others cost $15 per “page” (or its electronic equivalent) for
electronic and/or hard-copy materials preparation.
A reduction in the number of pages in printed AAA journals, newsletters and
other publications may be realized by taking advantage of the Internet and
other electronic capabilities to offer lengthy materials for publication. Every
publications designer should be thinking, “How little information must be
in print? How much useful material can be provided online?” Factors of
cost, accessibility to diverse groups of members and nonmembers, permanency,
timeliness, and usefulness must all be considered.
The AAA is exploring ways of initiating sales and other transactions on the
Web. (Membership enrollment and meeting registration are already offered
online.) Staff are especially interested in activities that would offer
expanded faculty development information and services over the Web on
restricted and/or unrestricted pages (limited to AAA members or those agreeing
to pay, or open to all; for example, maybe cases open to all and discussion
guides/answers limited to authorized members).
