The mission of the APLG is to stimulate excellence in accounting education through outstanding leadership of accounting programs.
The goals of the APLG are:
- Excellence in accounting program leadership. To assist accounting program leaders in the development of the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective and excellent in their roles and responsibilities.
- Excellence in accounting education programs. To influence and support high quality in the design and delivery of accounting education, including providing a forum for guidance and discussion related to best practices in accounting education, assessment and continual improvement of accounting programs, and accreditation issues.
- Excellence in serving as an advocate. To provide information and knowledge to members concerning issues in the accounting profession that could influence the future development and delivery of accounting education and, when appropriate, to serve as an advocate for the academy in promoting policies that will promote high quality accounting education.
- Continue to sponsor the Annual Seminar and the New Chairperson’s Seminar.
- Increase attendance at the APLG Seminar from accounting program leaders at institutions that have not generally participated in the past.
- Continue to sponsor development activities at regional meetings.
- Continue to publish the newsletter and maintain the website.
- Provide formal professional development opportunities in addition to the Annual Seminar such as single-topic workshops.
- Develop a forum to communicate best practices in accounting education.
- Provide a mentor program for new accounting program leaders.
- Identify and respond to the needs of members and supporters of APLG.
- Continue to build and maintain relationships with related academic and professional organizations, including FSA, AAA, AACSB, ACBSP, AICPA, FEI, IMA, and IIA.
- Participate actively in changes in accounting accreditation.
- Serve as an advocate for the profession in responding to policies, laws, and regulations that will impact the future of accounting education.
