14th Annual Symposium on Ethics Research in Accounting

Sponsored by the AAA’s Professionalism and Ethics Committee and the Public Interest Section

New York, NY | August 2nd, 2009
(CPE seminar immediately preceding the AAA’s Annual Meeting)

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Theme: Exploring Ethics’ Impact on Accounting Practice and Theory.

Ethics is central to every important accounting debate. To move from “is” to “ought,” the profession relies on academe for theoretical and empirical research to inform a diverse cross-section of accounting issues, from accounting standard convergence to regulation to measurement to whistle-blowing.

The AAA’s Professionalism and Ethics Committee is charged, in part, “to encourage and support accounting ethics education and scholarship in universities, and more broadly to set a tone for instilling a greater sense of professionalism and ethical conduct in the practice and teaching of accounting.”

We invite submissions of papers and panel sessions at the intersection of accounting and ethics. Specifically, we encourage researchers in mainstream areas (e.g., financial reporting, auditing, taxation, management, ABO, MIS, public interest, international, teaching, government and non-profit) to identify and address the implications of ethics in your research. Submit paper and panel sessions at: ethics@tricity.wsu.edu (electronic submissions only). Please indicate if you want your submission to be considered for one of the journals that sponsors the Symposium (Research on Professionalism and Ethics in Accounting, Accounting and the Public Interest, The Journal of Business Ethics" and "Global Perspectives on Accounting Education). Those presenting a paper at the Symposium may choose one of these journals for submission of their paper.  Authors who choose to designate a journal should contact that journal's editor to determine submission policies. Abstracts of accepted papers will be included in the proceedings.

Deadline for paper submissions: April 2, 2009.

Special Awards: Best Research Paper, Best Doctoral Paper, recognized mid-meeting at the Accounting Exemplar Luncheon, jointly sponsored by the Ethics Symposium and the AAA’s Public Interest Section.
