Theme: The Role of Accounting Education in Preventing, Detecting, and Prosecuting Fraud Accounting educators, students, and professionals are invited to submit completed manuscripts, and ideas for panels or workshops, for presentation at the AAA's 2005 Annual Western Region Meeting. The 40th annual meeting will be held in Sacramento, California. Although regional meetings tend to focus on teaching and curriculum issues, encouragement is given to professionals and members of AAA sections that have separate mid-year meetings to also submit papers and participate in this conference. We would like to provide a broad-based conference and have a large number of academics and professionals in attendance. CPE credit will be available. Awards for Best Research Paper and Best Education Paper are a plaque and $500. Submissions must be received by the deadline to be eligible for these awards. The deadline for paper submissions, panel proposals, and workshop proposals has been extended to January 17, 2005. Details and updates will be made available periodically on the Region's Internet home page (http://aaahq.org/western/western.htm). The American Accounting Association (AAA) Western Region is working with Social Science Research Network (SSRN) to provide an online conference submission and review system. The online submission system has many benefits and requires many choices. Accordingly, you are encouraged to print the Guidelines for Submission (http://aaahq.org/calls/SSRNWesternGuidelines.pdf) and refer to them as you proceed through the system. Individuals interested in submitting papers can do so electronically at http://hq.ssrn.com/conf/AAA-WR-2005.html. To complete a submission, you will need the following information:
COPYRIGHT AND DISTRIBUTION RIGHTS SUBMITTING AUTHOR MUST CHANGE STATUS FOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE Papers will be blind refereed. Authors of accepted papers will have the choice of publishing either the paper or an abstract in the meeting proceedings (CD-ROM). At least one author of an accepted paper must register for the meeting and present the paper. For consistency and as an aid to reviewers, papers should use The Accounting Review style. Papers should be single-sided and double-spaced, using a 12-point type, and have 1" margins all around. Pages should be numbered. Papers should have a cover page indicating the name, title, affiliation, complete postal address, e-mail address, telephone number and fax number of the author(s). Except for the title, none of this information should appear anywhere else in the paper. The cover page should also include at the bottom an indication of which section of the AAA best matches the topic of the paper (e.g., ABO, Auditing, Financial Reporting, or Teaching & Curriculum). Sections are listed at the AAA's web site (http://aaahq.org/srg.cfm). Those interested in conducting workshops or giving panel presentations should submit their proposals to the Region's President, Dr. John Corless, by December 1, 2004. CPE workshops will be held in half-day or full-day sessions on Thursday. Paper and panel presentations will take place in 90-minute concurrent sessions all day Friday, and until noon on Saturday.
