Indiana University Accounting Graduate Programs

Accounting Graduate Programs' Vision Statement
Indiana University's Accounting Graduate Programs will be recognized as one of the premiere programs of its type in the world. These programs will be predicated on the theme of world leadership in the mastery of critical business information. The Master of Business Administration in Accounting Program embodies a triad of major objectives for student development: (1) developing lifelong career success skills (strong leadership, teamwork and collaboration skills, critical and creative thinking geared to business problem solving, oral and written communications, and continuous self-assessment), (2) developing broad based knowledge of the integration of the major business functions required for strategic success, and (3) developing in-depth niche knowledge in an area of financial or information systems specialization. The Master of Professional Accountancy Program embodies the first and third objectives of the Master of Business Administration in Accounting Program.

Technology in the Classroom and Beyond
As part of the MBA in Accounting and MPA Programs, each student is required to purchase a laptop computer. The laptop computers help provide a learning environment that many students are likely to find themselves in upon graduation. With the aid of this technology and Lotus Notes, students are able to download assignments, complete the assignment with their teammates, and finally, send the answers to the professor without ever pushing a pencil. Most of the Accounting Graduate Programs' classes are held in two state of the art facilities constructed with the help of Ernst & Young and PricewaterhouseCoopers, respectively. These classrooms model a learning environment of the future. Besides hosting Ethernet connections at each seat, the classrooms also support such technology as dual projection screens ideal for lectures and presentations. In addition, they offer the capability to communicate with others around the world through teleconferencing.

LIPE and Consulting LIPE
LIPE is the acronym for Learning in a Professional Environment. LIPE is a six credit hour component of both programs designed to prepare future decision-makers for the world they are about to enter. LIPE is composed of the following four classes: A568 - Power, Persuasion, and Negotiation, A569 - Field Consulting Project, A570 - Instructional Development, L560 - Ethical Behavior and Critical Thinking This component of the degree offers students the opportunity to obtain some "real world" experience prior to graduation. In A569 and A570, students work in teams to resolve issues at different companies. A568 and L560 prepare students to deal with difficult decisions as they arise. Both classes ask students to engage in role playing exercises.

Conclusion
Finally, acknowledging our responsibilities as educators and mentors, we totally commit ourselves to the achievement of our goals through dedication to our students. As part of the Kelley School of Business, we share its objectives in the areas of teaching, outreach, and research. We hope to share our experiences with other academic programs to benefit the entire school. If five years after graduation our former students say to us, "It was a difficult process, but I am proud to have been a part of an elite program and substantively better for it," then there is a high probability that we will have succeeded in accomplishing our aims.
