Internet Principles
of Accounting Course
Wayne
Ingalls
University of Maine
Synopsis
The innovation
is a virtual classroom on the Internet designed to present
complete course materials for an introductory course in
financial accounting. The course has been designed to be
presented entirely over the Internet. Unlike many such
courses it is formulated to provide not only visual
material, but also audio and hands-on practical learning
experiences. It consists of audio lectures over the
material just as professors would cover it in an
introductory financial accounting course. It also contains
examples of problems that are worked through step-by-step,
just as a professor would in a traditional classroom
setting. Further, it contains hot links to many Internet
sites that encourage the student to investigate annual
reports, sites related to the accounting profession,
Edgar, the Wall Street Research Net and other related
sites. The course also includes a financial accounting
case study that requires application of the concepts
learned to real world corporate annual reports.
