Conference Information

The Fourth Annual Midyear Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR) Section Conference will be held at the Sheraton Midtown Atlanta Hotel at Colony Square in Atlanta, GA on January 27-28, 2006. The Conference will commence with a luncheon at noon on Friday, January 27. A plenary session on "Fair Value" on Friday afternoon will consist of two panel discussions. The first panel will address issues related to defining, measuring, and implementing fair value accounting. After a brief break, the second panel will address implications for accounting education of expanded use of fair value accounting. Each panel will entertain questions from the audience. Concurrent research and teaching sessions on a wide variety of financial accounting and reporting topics are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Featured speakers include Mary Barth (IASB), Dan Dhaliwal (University of Arizona), Teresa Iannaconi (KPMG), Katherine Schipper (FASB), and G. Peter Wilson (Boston College). There is also a welcome reception on Friday evening and a luncheon on Saturday.

The 2006 FARS Midyear Doctoral Consortium precedes the conference. The Consortium will commence at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27 and concludes at noon that day. Professors Illia Dichev (University of Michigan) and Mark Nelson (Cornell University) will lead the Consortium.

The Sheraton Midtown Atlanta Hotel at Colony Square is located in Atlanta's vibrant, pedestrian-friendly Midtown neighborhood attached to the Colony Square Mall and fine dining establishments.
