Opening Remarks and First Session
Learning Strategies that Students Use and Should Use if Interested in Careers in Fields Emphasizing Professional Judgment.

This will be interactive talk, via teleconference, with higher-education specialist, well-known speaker, and best-selling author Dr. Ken Bain. Ken Bain is the author of What the Best College Teachers Do, which won the 2004 Virginia and Warren Stone Prize for being an outstanding book on education and society. He also directs the Research Academy for University Learning at Montclair University. His talk will focus on research that provides insights about the different (and differentially successful) learning strategies used by college students pursuing careers in a judgment-oriented field and on how instructors can proactively anticipate and respond to these strategies.

Second Session
Developing Skills that Enable Students to Better Exercise Professional Skepticism and Professional Judgment

An interactive session led by Deloitte & Touche LLP’s Michael T. Matraia will focus on ways to develop skills and identify approaches that enable audit students to effectively apply professional judgment and exercise professional skepticism, including ways to help students assess whether professional judgments and professional skepticism have been appropriately documented

Third Session and Concluding Remarks
Synergistic Use of Audit Research Case Materials and Articles to Improve Audit Students’ Learning Experiences
Regulatory Ethics–Advanced; Auditing–Advanced–1.5CH
A participative session led by three accomplished audit scholar-educators – Professors Chris Earley (Providence College), Jacqueline Hammersley (University of Georgia), and Mark Zimbelman (Brigham Young University) – will experientially illustrate for participants how they have used some of their own audit research case materials and articles to improve their audit students’ classroom learning experiences.
