ABSTRACT: The advent of the personal computer coupled with the Internet has provided a mechanism for faculty to use the computer to facilitate active learning in their business courses whether it be as a tutorial, drill or practice piece, online quiz, instructional game or simulation. Yet, as a faculty member, how often have you had trouble finding high quality and relevant online teaching materials to enhance your accounting courses? Have you ever sometimes wondered whether the materials found will be appropriate for your students? Have you ever felt alone in your efforts to use technology for teaching accounting? Have you felt frustrated and overwhelmed with the additional time and workload demands required to teach accounting using technology? Finally, have you felt that your efforts spent developing teaching materials were not valued as much as publishing journal articles? If these dilemmas sound familiar, point your browser to www.merlot.org and join a community of faculty who are collectively building the MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching) resource. MERLOT is a vehicle through which faculty can not only discover, but also share the high quality teaching materials they have developed to foster active learning and give students a taste of the “real world” of business.

During this presentation, MERLOT learning resources relevant for Accounting educators will be discussed. In this way, conference attendees can decide whether this online community is one that is potentially beneficial to join. In sipping MERLOT during this session, you may find something of use for your course, the opportunity to network on-line with like minds, discover an outlet for contributing your own existing materials and assignments, or learn about the editorial review process. If you were not previously aware of the MERLOT resource, or if it has been awhile since you perused it, you may indeed find this session intoxicating.
