Dr. Priscilla Burnaby Receives the IIA Educator of the Year Award

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLA - Bentley Professor of Accountancy Priscilla A. Burnaby, Ph.D., CPA was presented with The Institute of Internal Auditors Research Foundation's (IIARF) 2004 Leon R. Radde Educator of the Year Award during the professional association's June 21–24 International Conference in Sydney, Australia. The IIA presents this award each year to one individual who has made significant contributions to the advancement of internal auditing and education in colleges and universities.

Burnaby also serves as coordinator of the Endorsed Internal Audit Program (EIAP) at Bentley. She wrote the grant to obtain the program, developed both the graduate and undergraduate internal audit courses, and developed risk management and performance measurement courses. Burnaby works tirelessly to promote internal auditing as an outstanding career choice for students and has taken a comprehensive approach to this task that has included professional development, research, curriculum design, and promotion.

Burnaby has been recognized with many awards and grants, including nomination for Bentley College's Adamian Award for Teaching Excellence.

Active for more than two decades with The IIA-Greater Boston Chapter, Burnaby has served as a Board of Governors member and as chair of the Research Committee. A graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and Texas A&M University, she resides in Marblehead, MA.

Burnaby is experienced as an internal auditing practitioner and brings this real-life perspective to her classes. She complements her professional development with significant scholarship in the field of internal auditing. She has developed numerous research projects and produced many articles in professional and academic journals.

In presenting Burnaby with the award, IIA Chairman of the Board Robert N. McDonald, CIA remarked, "Her outreach to the future of the internal auditing profession is extraordinary - and is indicative of why she is so deserving of this award."
