PCAOB Academic Fellowship Program
The Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has established an Academic Fellowship Program, which is designed to appoint outstanding researchers and academics to serve as Academic Fellows at the PCAOB’s Washington, DC headquarters for a term of up to 12 months. The Academic Fellow for the 2010-2011 academic year will be assigned to the Office of Research and Analysis (ORA).
Office of Research and Analysis (ORA)
ORA supports the oversight activities of the Board through a variety of programs. For example, ORA assists the Division of Registration and Inspections in identifying higher-risk audits and audit areas, and provides risk and data analysis support in the inspection-planning process through ORA proprietary databases and models. ORA also provides research and technical support to the Board’s other offices and divisions.
Academic Fellowship Description
The PCAOB is interested in qualified individuals with an active interest in auditing and oversight matters. The Academic Fellow would undertake projects in support of both the Board's strategic plan and ORA's work plan. He or she will be expected to provide analytical support and advice to the Director of ORA and ORA staff as well as other offices and divisions of the PCAOB and develop innovative ideas and problem-solving concepts within the framework of responsibilities of ORA. Such projects may include research on accounting and auditing matters, risk assessment research, and/or other research and work relating to PCAOB activities. Specific work assignments would be developed jointly by the Director of ORA (or any other ORA supervisor) and the Academic Fellow and will depend upon the current needs of the PCAOB and the interest and personal qualifications of the Academic Fellow. The Academic Fellow will have access to the resources available to PCAOB employees in ORA, subject to statutory confidentiality and ethics requirements.
Compensation, Benefits, and Timing
Compensation for the Academic Fellow will typically be 12/9s of a professor’s academic year salary (for a 12-month appointment) or a full-time salary for a non-academic, plus related benefits. Reasonable relocation expenses to and from Washington, DC will be reimbursed.
The Academic Fellow position is anticipated to begin on August 1, 2010 and is for a period of up to 12 months.
