The 1999 Competitive Manuscript Awards were presented at the 1999 Annual Meeting to Professor Debra L. Krolick, Washington University, and Professor Wayne B. Thomas, University of Utah. The presentations were made by Mike Shields, a member of the Competitive Manuscript Committee, at the Tuesday Luncheon of the AAA Annual Meeting held August 15–18 in San Diego, California.
The American Accounting Association Competitive Manuscript Award encourages research among members of the Association and associate members who have earned their Ph.D. within the past five years.
Any subject matter in the field of accounting is proper for inclusion in this contest. Manuscripts must generally conform to the style and length requirements of The Accounting Review. Co-authored papers are not eligible. Manuscripts which have been previously published, and those submitted for publication to journals other than The Accounting Review before the contest decision, are not eligible.
The AAA Competitive Manuscript Award Committee, appointed by the President of the Association to review submitted manuscripts, selects as many as three winners. Winning manuscripts are awarded a certificate and plaque designated as the American Accounting Association Competitive Manuscript Award.
Professor Krolick's manuscript was entitled "The Relevance of Financial Statement Information for Executive Performance Evaluation and Equity Valuation: Evidence From Choice of Bonus Plan Accounting Performance Measures."
Professor Thomas received the award for his manuscript, "A Test of the Market's (Mis)Pricing of Domestic and Foreign Earnings."
