Robert P. Magee
Outstanding Accounting Educator Award Winner
Robert P. Magee, Northwestern University, Keith I. DeLashmutt Professor of Accounting and Information Systems has been chosen as a recipient of the Outstanding Educator Award. Bob Magee has made substantial contributions to accounting education through his research publications, doctoral student mentoring, innovation in education and service to the academic community. He has won awards for both research and teaching, including the AAA/AICPA Notable Contributions to Accounting Literature award for his book, Capital Efficient Markets and Account ing: A Critical Analysis, and the Levy Teaching Award at Northwestern University. He has been a prime mover in developing the content of advanced managerial accounting courses, and was one of the first to apply information economics to accounting information in both research and teaching. He has provided research and career guidance to graduate students at the University of Chicago and Northwestern University, and at the AAA Doctoral Consortia. His work is heavily cited and his articles are among the most influential in accounting. Bob's influence has been felt by many researchers as he has critiqued and guided their work through the top journals, most recently as editor of The Accounting Review from 1994–1996. Whether their papers were accepted or rejected, authors submitting papers to The Accounting Review benefited from Bob's extraordinary attention and scholarly insights far beyond what would normally be expected from someone with his workload. Bob exemplifies the best characteristics of a scholar. He is truly an Outstanding Accounting Educator.
