2007 Ohio Region Meeting
Deloitte/AAA Ohio Region Student Manuscript Competition
CALL FOR PAPERS
Deloitte, in association with the Ohio Region of the American Accounting Association, will again sponsor a student manuscript competition. This competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate accountancy students at any Ohio university or college. Plaques and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners at Friday night's dinner during the 2007 Ohio Region AAA meeting. Winners are
encouraged to attend the dinner as guests of the Ohio Region AAA.
Categories and Eligibility:
This year there will be three categories of competition:
- Undergraduate: open to all undergraduate students majoring in accounting at an Ohio institution
- Graduate (masters degree students): open to all masters students at an Ohio institution
- Graduate (doctoral degree students): open to all accounting doctoral students at an Ohio institution
Prizes:
- For the undergraduate and graduate (masters) categories, the first and second place winners will receive a plaque and cash awards of $500 for first place and $250 for second place.
- For the graduate (doctoral) category, the winner will receive a plaque.
Objectives of the Competition:
- Undergraduate category: To encourage undergraduate accounting majors to engage in reading that goes "beyond the textbook", to critically examine an issue, and to polish their writing skills.
- Graduate categories (both masters and doctoral): To encourage students to research, and to develop and justify their own conclusions about some "frontier" area of accounting.
Topic:
- Any topic related to accounting is acceptable.
Evaluation Criteria:
- All papers will be blind reviewed and ranked on the following criteria:
- Content: The significance of the issue(s) covered, the strength of defense for selecting the issue(s), the strength of analysis, and the merits of recommendations. (65 points)
- Style: The organization, clarity and grammatical accuracy of the manuscript. (35 points)
Format:
- Any conventional style is acceptable.
- Papers should be no longer than 10 pages for the undergraduate category (20 pages for both graduate categories), not including footnotes and bibliography.
- Papers should be double-spaced, using a 12-point font.
Cover Page:
- Each manuscript must have a cover page that includes:
- The title of the manuscript
- The author's name, university, mailing address, e-mail address and telephone number (co-authored papers will not be accepted).
- The name of the faculty sponsor (each faculty member may only
sponsor a maximum of three papers in any one of the above categories).
Submission:
- The manuscript should be submitted by the sponsoring faculty member (each faculty member may sponsor a maximum of three papers in each of the eligible categories).
- All submissions must be postmarked no later than
March 1, 2007. - Send four copies of the manuscript, along with the cover sheet, to:
