Troubleshooting Tips

Viewing the Text Files on the CD-ROM
If your system is set to default to Internet Explorer as the default browser you may encounter problems when attempting to view text files included on the CD-ROM. To alleviate the problem, we suggest that you launch Internet Explorer prior to launching the CD-ROM. You may also need to double-click on the links to the text files on the CD-ROM in order to view them. If neither of these tips resolve your problem, set your default browser to Netscape and you will be able to view the text files.

Viewing the Movies on the CD-ROM
Viewing the movies on this CD-ROM requires QuickTime™ software. If you do not see the movies (i.e., you see rectangles containing a large red "X" where the movies should be), this means that you do not have QuickTime™ properly loaded on your system. QuickTime™ for either Windows or Macintosh platforms can be acquired directly from Apple at: http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/support/.

Hearing Sounds or Audio on the CD-ROM
If you cannot hear the sounds or audio from the CD-ROM it is probably the result of configuration issues on your system. Close out all other applications running on your system, as they may be conflicting with the use of the sound card. Also, be sure that sound has been enabled on the system on which you are playing the CD-ROM. As a final check, be sure the sound levels on the system and the speakers are both turned up.

Performance of the CD-ROM
The CD-ROM is optimized for performance on systems that meet minimum specifications (see the Read Me File). Make sure that the system you are playing the CD-ROM on meets these minimum specifications. Memory allocation can also affect performance of the CD-ROM. Try closing out all other currently running applications, re-booting the system and then launching the CD-ROM. We have also seen performance slowdowns on laptops that are normally configured for use on a network, but are disconnected from the network when playing the CD-ROM. Re-connecting the laptop to the network and re-booting has resolved these issues.
