Meeting Information

Members of the American Accounting Association, academicians, practitioners, and doctoral students are invited to attend the 2005 AAA Southeast Regional Meeting to be held in Charlotte, North Carolina. The meeting is co-hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Clemson University.

Conference at a Glance

Conference Theme: Reconnecting Accounting Education and Practice

The conference will open with a plenary session that includes a panel of representatives from accounting firms and industries. The panelists will discuss the outlook for jobs for accounting graduates, the quality of new hires that firms look for, and what accounting educators can do to enhance the students' chances for getting jobs and to prepare them for a successful career.

Following the plenary session, we have planned a variety of sessions that cover a wide-range of topics. A complete program will be available in mid March, but here is an outline of some of these sessions:

  • Panels of speakers from various sections of the AAA, including Teaching and Curriculum, Auditing, and International Accounting
  • A panel of journal editors
  • Skills that employers expect from accounting graduates
  • Market and management reactions to SFAS 142 on goodwill impairment
  • Predicting cash flows in Japan
  • The effects of budgeting on performance, altruistic behavior and job satisfaction
  • The legacy of Gerhard Mueller
  • Changes in accounting education over the last ten years
  • Assessing productivity of accounting faculty
  • Students attitude toward dishonesty
  • Teaching tips for first-time AIS instructors
  • Unreported tip income issues
  • And many more

Tour of Bank of America: Thursday, April 21, 2005
(1:00 to 4:00 PM — approximate)

Plans include a guided tour of the trading floor at the bank and a visit with some bank officials who will explain certain aspects of the bank's operations.
