Title: Helping Students Learn Accrual Based Accounting Using the Game of Monopoly and Accounting Software

Presenter: Mark Bezik

Session description:
The game of Monoploy and a computer software package have been successfully used in all sections of the basic Financial Accounting course at Idaho State University. In a survey of students completing this course, over 50% indicated that this was the most important learning tool in the course!

This 4-hour session will enable you to use the game of Monopoly in your classroom to increase student understanding of: the accounting equation; debits and credits; accrual accounting; computerized accounting systems; financial statement analysis; and how accounting relates to running a business.

After a brief introduction to the project, you will get hands-on experience playing the game and completing the first portion of a typical project. Following your completion of the project, a discussion of typical problems encountered and helpful suggestions will wrap up this session.

COST: $40
