90-Minute CPE Workshop
How to Build and Implement an ABC System
Abstract:
This is an introductory workshop on how to build and implement an ABC system.
It focuses on the steps involved in building an ABC model. The workshop will
not cover the theory of ABC; it is assumed that participants have this
knowledge. The intention is to link theory and practice. Accounting educators
may be knowledgeable in the theory of ABC, but may not have hands-on experience
in designing and building the ABC model. The techniques learned can be used to
a) enrich classroom presentations, b) enable instructors to use a wider variety
of ABC and ABM cases, and c) design and build ABC systems in any type of
organization: profit or not-for-profit, manufacturing, or non-manufacturing.
Key objectives are to
convey:
- an understanding of the steps
involved in building an ABC model
- an awareness of the problems that
may arise in model building
- knowledge of the tools and
techniques to implement ABC
Using examples from the
presenter's experience in building ABC models, the workshop will highlight the
critical phases of an ABC project, the potential problems, and the decisions
that have to be made at each major step.
