Call for Papers

Annual Meeting of the Western Region

Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Tennis Club
Newport Beach, California
April 29 - May 1, 2004

Theme: Excellence Across the Spectrum of Accounting Education

Accounting educators, students, and professionals are invited to submit completed manuscripts, and ideas for panels or workshops, for presentation at the AAA's 2004 Annual Western Region Meeting. The 39th annual meeting will be held in Newport Beach, California. Because of the location, strong encouragement is given for papers and participation from two-year college faculty in addition to those who might normally attend. Although regional meetings tend to focus on teaching and curriculum issues, encouragement is given to professionals and members of AAA sections that have separate mid-year meetings to also submit papers and participate in this conference. We would like to provide a broad-based conference and have a large number of academics and professionals in attendance. CPE credit will be available. Awards for Best Research Paper and Best Education Paper are a plaque and $500. Submissions must be received by the deadline to be eligible for these awards.

The deadline for paper submissions has been extended to December 1, 2003; the deadline for panel and workshop proposals is December 1, 2003. Details and updates will be made available periodically on the Western Region's Internet home page (aaahq.org/western/western.htm).

Authors who wish to have their papers considered for the meeting should mail 5 copies of their completed papers to the Program Chair, Dr. Benjamin Tai, in time to be received by the extended submission deadline of December 1, 2003. Fax and e-mail submissions are not permitted. The mailing should include both a self-addressed stamped postcard and a self-addressed stamped envelope with the title of the paper indicated on the back. Papers will be blind refereed. Authors of accepted papers will have the choice of publishing either the paper or an abstract in the meeting proceedings (CD-ROM). Authors of accepted papers will be required to submit the abstract or paper in electronic format. At least one author of an accepted paper must register for the meeting and present the paper. For consistency and as an aid to reviewers, papers should use the Accounting Review style. Papers should be single-sided and double-spaced, using a 12-point type, and have 1" margins all around. Pages should be numbered. Papers should be stapled to a cover page indicating the name, title, affiliation, complete postal address, e-mail address, telephone number and fax number of the author(s). Except for the title, none of this information should appear anywhere else in the paper. The cover page should also include at the bottom an indication of which section of the AAA best matches the topic of the paper (e.g., Accounting, Behavior and Organizations; American Taxation Association; Artificial Intelligence / Emerging Technologies; Auditing; Faculty Diversity and Initiatives; Financial Accounting and Reporting; Gender Issues in Accounting; Government and Nonprofit; Information Systems; International Accounting; Management Accounting; Public Interest; Teaching & Curriculum; or Two-Year College).

Those interested in conducting workshops or giving panel presentations should submit their proposals to the Region's President, Dr. Sheldon Smith, by December 1, 2003. CPE workshops will be held in half-day or full-day sessions on Thursday, April 29, 2004. Paper and panel presentations will take place in 90-minute concurrent sessions all day Friday, April 30 and until noon on Saturday, May 1.
