The Landscape of Sustainability Reporting in Europe: Implications for Research, Practice, and Policy

Global Gathering

This webinar is sponsored by the Global Gathering
(Learn more HERE.)

The year 2025 represented a turning point for sustainability reporting in Europe, marked by major regulatory shifts—including the “Stop the Clock” measures, Omnibus adjustments, and the move toward simplified ESRS—that are reshaping reporting requirements and practice. These changes have far reaching consequences for companies, professionals, educators, standard setters, and researchers, creating both urgent challenges and new research opportunities.

Learning Objective(s): • Provide a concise overview of the recent regulatory reforms and their practical effects on corporate reporting; • Examine how simplification measures (e.g., revised thresholds, reduced datapoints, and the VSME voluntary framework) affect implementation choices for firms of different sizes; • Identify priority research questions and methodological approaches that can help scholars address emerging evidence gaps; • Discuss implications for professional practice and accounting education, including skills, tools, and curricula needed to support high quality sustainability reporting.
