Learning Objectives: This workshop will provide insights on two critically important and current topics: revenue recognition and cyber and fraud risk. In terms of revenue recognition, we will discuss the core principle and five-step model of the new revenue recognition standard, ASC 606. In addition, in the spirit of the workshop’s event location being in the heart of the media and entertainment industry, we will explore the application of the model to transactions in this industry including licenses of media content, cooperative advertising programs, and broadcasters/distribution/distributor arrangements. In terms of cyber and fraud risk, this topic is at the top of the agenda for corporations around the world, and we, as consumers and citizens, also have a large vested interest in this risk being well managed. We will discuss the latest trends and areas of focus for companies in managing cyber and fraud risks, the complexities that this entails, and the opportunities it offers the accounting profession. Lastly, curriculum and thought leadership offerings by the EY Academic Resource Center on both of the workshop topics will be highlighted to help bring these important topics to your classroom.
