2026 GOVERNMENT AND NONPROFIT SECTION MIDYEAR MEETING

The leadership of the Government and Nonprofit (GNP) Section is excited to announce our 2026 GNP Section Midyear Meeting, which will be held on March 20-21, 2026, at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, NH.

As part of a collaboration, we are also delighted to announce that our meeting will include: (a) research sessions for the Public Interest, Ethics, and Sustainability (PIES) Section of AAA and (b) a doctoral consortium for students and new scholars interested in GNP and/or PIES research.

Message from Linda Ragland,

2025-2026 AAA GNP Section President

I am honored and humbled to serve as the President of the Government and Nonprofit (GNP) section of American Accounting Association (AAA) for the 2025-2026 academic year. The GNP section has been my academic home for over fourteen years. Reflective of this time, it has been a privilege to meet and collaborate with an extraordinary group of talented individuals who have provided me with guidance, friendship, encouragement, and opportunities to develop and improve in my research, teaching, and service roles. To each of you, I say “a heartfelt thank you.”

As we start the 2025-2026 academic year, I first recognize and thank Erica Harris for her years of service to our section and for serving as GNP section President this past academic year. I hope that I can follow in her footsteps as well as the footsteps of those who served before her. Related, I know that the GNP leadership path is a collective effort comprised of Executive Committee (EC) members, who volunteer endlessly. For this, I deeply thank Vaughan Radcliffe - President-Elect; Erica Harris - Past President and Nominating Committee Chair; Alan Styles - AAA Council Representative; Rebecca Bloch – Secretary/Treasurer; Dana Forgione - V.P. & Director of Education and Research; Barry Marks - Historian.

GASB Update Presentation from Joel Black, GASB Chair at the 2023 AAA Annual Meeting

The GNP Section held a luncheon on August 7, 2023, during the AAA Annual Meeting. Joel Black, GASB Chair, presented at the luncheon and provided a GASB update and offered opportunities for collaborations between the Section and GASB. GASB is gracious in providing the PowerPoint slides from Joel Black's luncheon presentation.

Government and Nonprofit Section Doctoral Dissertation Grants

The GNP Section sponsors a competitive dissertation grant program to help defray certain costs (up to $1,500) for individuals conducting dissertation research on governmental and nonprofit topics.

Government and Nonprofit Section Midyear Meeting Travel Grants

The GNP Section sponsors $1000 travel grants for the midyear GNP section meeting. The grants are intended to assist doctoral students interested in GNP research by defraying a portion of the costs of attending these meetings.
