Financial Reporting and Business Communication, Twentieth Annual Conference

University of Bristol, Thursday 30 June & Friday 1 July 2016: First Call for Papers

We are pleased to announce the twentieth annual Financial Reporting and Business Communication Conference organised by the University of Bristol and the BAFA FARSIG. This is the premier conference of its kind worldwide and it attracts an international audience. The conference, supported by ICAEW’s charitable trusts, comprises parallel paper sessions with discussants and a doctoral stream. The conference addresses key areas of interest to accounting academics and practitioners and includes:

• The role financial reporting plays in capital markets, financial stability and corporate governance
  
  
• The purpose of the modern corporate report and the effectiveness of financial reporting standards
  
  
• Sustainable, integrated and environmental reporting
  
  
• The history of accounting

Papers are invited on these topics and on all aspects of financial reporting and business communication. This includes empirical and theoretical papers, case studies and articles on accounting measurement and disclosure (e.g., CSR; intellectual capital; risk), presentation including the visual, communication and the impact of information contained in annual reports and other business documentation in the private and public sectors.

Should you wish to have a paper considered for presentation at the conference, please email a 500 word abstract to the organisers, Richard Slack or Mike Jones, shown below. The closing date for abstracts is 4 March 2016. Please indicate whether the paper is to be considered for the main conference or the PhD stream. For the main conference, accepted full papers will be required by 27 May 2016 to enable discussant review.

As part of the main conference, we intend to run two separate streams for papers on Social and Environmental disclosure and Integrated Reporting , which will be eligible for the 2017/18 issue of Advances in Environmental Accounting & Management (organiser Stuart Cooper, Bristol) and the History of Accounting (organiser David Oldroyd, Durham). Please indicate on submission if you want papers considered for one of these two streams, otherwise it will be allocated to the general stream of the conference.

A Sue Hrasky Scholarship is available for 2016 to doctoral students in the doctoral stream. This comprises a doctoral fee waiver, UK receipted travel, subsistence and accommodation costs at the conference. Applications should be in the form of a structured abstract and email entitled FRBC Scholarship/authors name. The award of the Scholarship will be announced by the end of April 2016.

We are also delighted to announce that full papers presented at the conference may be eligible for submission to a Special Section of Accounting and Business Research subject to normal review process of the journal. Further details of this, and submission of papers for consideration, will be given at the conference.
