Developing a Government / Not-for-Profit Course that Qualifies for A STEM Designation

In accounting, where technology and data analytics are increasingly important, a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) designation helps modernize programs and better prepares students for the future. These four fields share an emphasis on innovation, problem-solving, and critical thinking, and accounting is no different. A key opportunity lies in governmental accounting. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) uses CIP codes to classify STEM programs, which are crucial for funding, scholarships, and career opportunities, especially for international students. By redesigning a governmental accounting course to emphasize data analysis through deep dives into Annual Comprehensive Reports, it can be aligned with CIP codes making it STEM-qualified. This enhances transparency in government reporting, which increasingly relies on data analytics. This webinar demonstrates how to create a governmental/not-for-profit course which meets STEM requirements.

Learning Objective(s): Gain knowledge of the steps needed to create a governmental/not-for-profit course that meets STEM requirements.
