Susan Crosson
Director for the Center of Advancing Accounting in Education

Susan Crosson joined the American Accounting Association in 2015 as its first Director of the Center for Advancing Accounting Education. Prior to coming to the American Accounting Association, Susan served on the faculties of Emory University, Santa Fe College, University of Florida, Washington University in Saint Louis, University of Oklahoma, Johnson County Community College, and Kansas City Kansas Community College and worked in public accounting, banking, and higher education administration. Susan continues to be guided by her mission to create a learning process as individual as each student requires to master the course content and actively apply with confidence what's learned. She is pleased to be able to speak and write on the effective use of technology throughout the accounting curriculum. In addition to her over 300 YouTube videos, she has co-authored several accounting textbooks. Susan earned her Master of Science in Accounting from Texas Tech University and her undergraduate degree in accounting and economics from Southern Methodist University. She is a CPA.

Joe Hoyle
Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond

Joe Hoyle is an associate professor of accounting in the Robins School of Business at the University of Richmond. He recently completed his 44th year of teaching.  In 2006, he was named one of 22 favorite professors in the US by Business Week.  In 2007, he was named the Virginia Professor of the Year by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. In 2012, he was named one of nine favorite professors in the US by Bloomberg Businessweek. In 2013, he was one of several college teachers highlighted in the book Cheating Lessons by James Lang and published by Harvard University Press. He is a coauthor of two textbooks:   Advanced Accounting (in its 12th edition) and Financial Accounting (in its 2nd edition). He has written a free online book titled Tips and Thoughts on Improving the Teaching Process in College—A Personal Diary. He has written over 210 entries for his teaching blog which has had more than 150,000 page views. The video of his Last Lecture at the University of Richmond has been viewed more than 17,000 times. He coauthored an article in The Chronicle of Higher Education about his experiences in joining a government accounting course with a course on Victorian literature. He and his lovely wife Sarah have been married for 45 years and have four children and four grandchildren.

Scott D. Wiley

As the energetic and results-oriented chief executive of The Ohio Society of CPAs, Scott Wiley calls on his clear vision and can-do passion to lead one of the top state accounting associations in the country to expanded growth and influence.

Wiley drives strategic initiatives that help over 21,000 CPAs and accounting professionals meet the rigorous demands of a changing business environment. He sets the association's bold annual advocacy agenda, collaborating with government and CPA leaders to drive tax and regulatory changes that benefit Ohio's economy and improve its business environment.

Influencing the national policy agenda for the accounting profession is a top priority for Wiley, who represents The Ohio Society of CPAs and the national association community on Capitol Hill. He does this through his active participation with the CPA Society State Executives Association and as a board member for the American Society of Association Executives in Washington, D.C.

The Ohio Society of CPAs is recognized as a key leader in evolving CPA continuing education. Ohio was the first state CPA association to launch a successful online learning platform. In 2014, Scott worked with the Accountancy Board of Ohio to adopt new rules making Ohio the first state in the nation to approve CPA continuing education credit for micro learning. This strategic move recognizes that learning formats must be flexible and evolve to meet the needs of a new generation of professionals. Wiley's efforts earned him a place on The American Institute of CPAs Future of Learning Task Force in 2013.

Mindful of changing demographics in America, Wiley is making a diverse and inclusive CPA talent pool a top priority in Ohio. He serves on The American Institute of CPAs National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion and has increased funding for diversity recruitment initiatives through The Ohio CPA Foundation where he is also president. The Foundation funds programs that grow a strong and vital CPA talent pool in Ohio.

Greg Stefani
Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland

Greg Stefani is first vice president and chief operating officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. Appointed to the position in 2011, Mr. Stefani is the second ranking official of the Bank which serves the Fourth Federal Reserve District, comprised of Ohio, western Pennsylvania, eastern Kentucky and the northern panhandle of West Virginia.

Mr. Stefani chairs the Bank’s Executive Leadership Team and oversees all operating and support activities in the Cleveland headquarters, as well as in the Bank’s branches in Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. During Mr. Stefani’s 30-year tenure with the Bank, he has held positions of increasing responsibility within the Supervision and Regulation, Credit Risk Management, and Statistics and Analysis departments. His responsibilities included establishing a function to assess capital market activities in supervised Fourth District financial services organizations. In 2006, he also established an organization-wide Policy and Strategic Analysis function, designed to elevate the Bank’s contributions to banking and payments policy issues. In 2007, Mr. Stefani was appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer, and he has developed expertise in strategic planning and risk management.

Mr. Stefani is active in the Fourth District’s civic community. He is a member of the board of directors of United Way of Greater Cleveland and the board of advisors of the Commission on Economic Inclusion, co-chairing the Membership Impact Committee. He also serves on the Board of Advocates for the College of Business at Bowling Green State University. He has served as past president of the board of directors at University Settlement, Inc., a non-profit social services organization serving the Broadway/Slavic Village community. In 2010, he completed Leadership Cleveland, a program designed to build leadership resources within the greater Cleveland community.

A native of New Philadelphia, Ohio, Mr. Stefani received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in finance and an MBA from Bowling Green State University. He is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program and the Graduate School of Banking at the University of Colorado.

Hughlene Burton
AAA Past Council Chair, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Hughlene Burton, is Past Council-Chair of the American Accounting Association (2015–16). She is a Certified Public Accountant, and joined the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina Charlotte in 1996 from San Jose State University. Before her career in academia, she was a tax manager with EY in Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C. Dr. Burton has taught tax courses for numerous professional groups. Her research interests include corporate integration, tax policy, and corporate and international tax issues. Dr. Burton is a member of the American Accounting Association, the American Taxation Association and the tax division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She currently serves on the Partnership Taxation Tax Resource Panel for the AICPA. She has published numerous articles in tax and legal journals. Dr. Burton is currently serving as Chair for the Accounting Department.
