2025-2026 International Membership Advisory Committee
Charge
The International Membership Advisory Committee is charged with identifying and supporting the goal of the American Accounting Association (AAA) to increase international membership and better provide support for international members. For purposes of this committee, international members are defined as those outside of North America.
Specifically:
- Establish a purpose statement and objectives of the International Membership Advisory Group.
- Review past and current international member demographics and engagement levels and provide insights into best practices for attracting and retaining international members.
- Identify key needs, gaps, resources needed by, and interests among international members.
- Identify programs to better engage international members in the short and long term (webinars, research forums, virtual and in-person conferences and networking events, etc.).
- Propose ways for AAA to partner with international institutions and organizations.
- Propose and lead efforts to engage international members at AAA meetings.
Membership
- New Committee members are appointed prior to the Annual Meeting by the AAA Management Team with one year terms.
- New Advisory Committee members will be representative of the different international regions outside the US (North America) to reflect the various voices and needs. The Advisory Committee will include at least one member of each of the following regions:
- Australia and New Zealand
- East Asia
- Europe
- Middle East and North Africa region (MENA)
- South America
- South Asia
- Southeast Asia
- The Advisory Committee shall consist of a minimum of twelve members, including a Chair.
- The Chair is the Director - Focusing on International, who also serves as the Board liaison.
- The Advisory Committee includes the Director - Focusing on Membership.
- The staff liaison is the staff member leading international membership efforts.
Meetings
- Meetings will occur at least three times per year, with additional meeting scheduled as needed.
- Committee meetings will be scheduled at the discretion of the Chair.
Responsibilities
- Fulfill the Committee charge as above.
- Barbara Gutierrez, (barbara.gutierrez@aaahq.org), Governance Manager, assists with providing logistical support for committee meetings and conference calls.
- If the Chair has any questions about the charge or responsibilities of this committee, s/he should contact the Chief Executive Officer or the AAA Board President.
- The Chair must submit at least one report per year to the Board of Directors. This report should include accomplishments and suggested modifications and should be sent to the AAA President, the committee’s Board of Directors Liaison, and Governance Manager, Barbara Gutierrez (barbara.gutierrez@aaahq.org).
