Broadening the Pipeline: Student Perceptions and the Future of Accounting Careers

This presentation shares key findings from a comprehensive national survey of high school and college students, conducted to inform the strategic direction of the CAQ’s Accounting+ campaign. Attendees will gain insights into how students perceive accounting careers, the barriers they face and the impact of targeted outreach and messaging.

Learning Objective(s): 1. Understand current challenges and opportunities in the accounting talent pipeline, including demographic and economic trends affecting student interest.
2. Analyze the impact of early exposure, personal connections, and targeted messaging on student engagement with the profession.
3. Evaluate the effectiveness of the Accounting+ campaign and related outreach efforts in shifting perceptions and broadening the pipeline.
4. Apply research-backed strategies and resources to support students’ exploration of accounting as a viable and rewarding career path.
