Is It News or Nonsense? Accounting Class Activities to Help Students Think Critically and Skeptically About AI
We will share a collection of modular, scalable classroom activities designed to build critical thinking, professional skepticism, and ethical reasoning in introductory financial and managerial accounting courses in an AI-enabled world. Activities such as News or Nonsense ask students to evaluate the credibility of financial “news” and AI-generated content by identifying missing, misleading, or overly optimistic information. The collection spans 12 accounting topics and includes over 300 free, adaptable activities suitable for small and large classes.
Learning Objective(s): Participants will be able to implement classroom activities that strengthen students’ critical thinking, professional skepticism, and ethical reasoning in introductory accounting courses.
