Integrating Ethics into the Accounting Curriculum

The absence of ethics in financial reporting is a fundamental issue contributing to our nation’s economic crisis. Current business failures and corporate scandals have created a growing lack of confidence in the assurance process performed by certified accountants and the accuracy of financial reporting.

Our discussion will focus on ways that faculty can integrate the profession’s ethical codes and an individual’s thought process involved in making ethical decisions into their accounting curriculum. We will discuss the use of stand-alone courses as well as ways to include the topic in existing courses.
