Put Your Text Foot Forward: Introducing Textual Analysis into the Accounting Classroom

Due to the rapid growth of internal and external unstructured data and computer processing capability, accountants today employ textual analysis in many activities ranging from revenue recognition and contract analysis to privacy compliance and video recordings. Textual analysis, also known as content analysis, involves examining the content, structure, and functions of messages contained in unstructured (or text) data based on linguistic theory. This session will cover how to incorporate basic textual analytics concepts into your classroom. Further, we will provide examples of how textual analytics can be used in financial accounting, managerial accounting, and auditing in today’s business environment.
