Program Description: Abdy will be presenting on the MonsoonSIM platform, a simulation and gamification business teaching and learning platform. Professor Severin will present on the application of platform on a graduate ERP systems course. Professor Susan will share on the application of platform on an intermediate undergraduate accounting course.

Agenda:
In the “Enhance Accounting Curriculum with Simulation and Gamification” webinar participants will be hearing from the CEO of MonsoonSIM, Abdy Taminsyah and Guest Speakers from Michigan State University (MSU), Professors Severin Grabski and Susan Convery. This event is suited for accounting educators of all levels interested in facilitating experiential learning (learning by doing) through gamification and simulation.

Abdy Taminsyah will be sharing an overview of the MonsoonSIM platform, uniquely designed for business education. Participants will hear about the unique teaching and learning process provided by the combination of gamification and simulations. In addition, participants will be able to see how accounting educators can configure the platform to teach virtually any accounting concepts.

Professor Severin Grabski will be providing insights on implementing MonsoonSIM into his graduate ERP systems course. MonsoonSIM empowers his students to experience the enterprise system, facilitate business management, and learn the importance of accounting information. Students in teams of 3-4, running the platform will be operating a retail store, with warehousing capabilities, marketing intelligence, B2C and B2B capabilities, production and HR. To the participants Severin will share the MonsoonSIM schedule, configurations and assessments.  In addition, Severin will provide the general student feedback for the use of MonsoonSIM in this course.

Professor Susan Convery will cover the implementation of MonsoonSIM into an undergraduate intermediate financial accounting course. Susan runs the platform to teach students the process of running an inventory business and the accounting issues that follows. Students will be developing a strategic plan for managing inventory when participating in the game, and evaluate their contribution to the team’s performance in a competitive business environment. Susan will explain her MonsoonSIM schedule, configurations and assessments. Additionally, Susan will outline student feedback for the integration of MonsoonSIM in her course.

Speaker information:
Severin Grabski is a Professor in the Broad College of Business’ Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Michigan State University.  He was the faculty director for MS-Business Analytics program (2017-2021) in the Broad College.  Prior to that he was Senior Faculty Advisor for Instructional Technology to the CIO at Michigan State University (2006-2017). In addition to his appointment at Michigan State University, he was a Visiting Professor at the University of Tasmania in 1999. Dr. Grabski received his Ph.D. from Arizona State University, and M.B.A. and B.S.B.A. in Accounting from Marquette University. He currently teaches an Enterprise Systems course and Accounting Analytics in the MS Accounting program. He received the American Taxation Association/Deloitte Innovative Teaching Award in 2018 with Susan Convery and Edmund Outslay. Susan Convery has been a fixed-term Professor in the Broad College of Business’ Department of Accounting and Information Systems at Michigan State University since 2008 and is an Emeritus Professor from Eastern Michigan University. Professor Convery has a Ph.D. in Accounting and B.A. in Business Administration from Michigan State University and an M.S. in Accounting from Eastern Michigan University. She teaches the Intermediate Financial Accounting I course to accounting and finance undergraduate students and the undergraduate government and not-for-profit accounting course. She received the American Taxation Association/Deloitte Innovative Teaching Award in 2018 with Severin Grabski and Edmund Outslay.
