Session 5.01: Using Digital Courseware Analytics to Evaluate Student Abilities
Presenter: Julie Hansen, San Diego Mesa College
Wouldn’t it be great to know before entering the classroom where student comprehension and abilities are, so we know what topics to reinforce and which knowledge, skills and abilities students have mastered? Utilizing built-in courseware analytics is the ultimate tool in knowing what topic and skills students are struggling with and what they’ve mastered, helping instructors make the best use of class time! There is an ever-increasing usage of Digital Courseware and integration with the various Learning Management Systems in both community colleges and universities. Assigning homework to master the learning objectives, then understanding the associated analytics that are readily available can (and should) be used to help instructors understand the topics and skills students are mastering and struggling with and how to identify their ‘at-risk’ students. These analytics tools are often underutilized yet easy to access and provide huge benefits to instructors and students alike.
