Most big data projects go through a prototypical sequence of steps: discovering data, organizing data (extracting, profiling, transforming), enhancing data (information modeling), and analyzing data. Each of the different steps requires a different set of skills. Parts 3 and 4 of this workshop focus on information modeling and data organization and how both steps are supported by Power BI. First (part 3), you will learn how to calculate information needed for analysis purposes using the DAX language (Excel formulas on steroids). Second (part 4), you will learn how to extract data from a variety of data sources, how to detect and correct data errors, how to restructure data, and how to integrate data. This is a hands-on workshop! You will learn the core principles of information modeling and data organization by working on a number of exercises. While it is recommended to attend the morning session, no previous knowledge regarding information modeling or data organization is required and the materials taught are relevant to all accounting disciplines. After taking parts 3 and 4 of this workshop you should be able to teach and use DAX formulas (information modeling) and data organization techniques in your classes. Attend all four parts and receive a certificate! (Certificates will be emailed after attendance at all four parts has been verified.)
