Call for Participants in Junior Faculty Mentoring Session at the 2019 IAS Midyear Meeting

The research committee of the International Accounting Section invites applications from junior faculty for a Senior Faculty/Junior Faculty mentoring session to be held in conjunction with the International Accounting Section Mid-Year Meeting in Miami, FL January 24th – 26th, 2019.

The mentoring session will provide junior faculty an opportunity to interact with senior faculty experienced in international accounting research. In addition, junior faculty will have the opportunity to discuss a current research project with a senior faculty member and get their insights on the project. The goal of the mentoring session is to provide continuing support to junior faculty interested in international accounting research. In addition, participants in the junior faculty mentoring session will be invited to participate in the IAS New Faculty/PhD Student consortium sessions on the evening of January 23rd and the day of January 24th.

For purposes of this mentoring session all faculty members who have completed a doctoral degree (i.e., PhD or DBA), and are not yet tenured will be considered junior faculty, and are eligible to submit research proposals. Junior faculty members participating in the mentoring session are expected to provide a copy of their curriculum vitae and a short (2-4 pages) summary of a current research project two weeks before the meeting (i.e. on or before January 10, 2019) in order to give the senior faculty time to review the summary before the meeting. A summary is not required to sign-up for the mentoring session. The project may be a research proposal, or a current working paper encompassing any topical area within the field of International accounting research and using any research methodology. Research proposals are expected to be developed well enough to allow meaningful feedback to be provided by the senior faculty member (i.e., they should include a well-defined research question and some description of the methodology to be used).

In view of limited availability of senior faculty members, only ten (10) junior faculty members will be invited for this year’s mentoring session.  Slots will be filled on a first come basis. If you are interested in participating, or would like additional information, please contact Bowe Hansen, at tbhansen@vcu.edu.  Please share this announcement with any junior faculty in your department that you feel may benefit from the mentoring opportunity.
