Greg Burton, Brigham Young University

Greg Burton is the Associate Director and Ford Motor Company International Professor in the School of Accountancy at Brigham Young University. Greg teaches auditing, financial accounting, international accounting, and international business. He received a B.A. and MAcc in accounting from Utah State University and his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, with an interest in international business. He has been honored with several teaching awards, most recently the 2016 Marriott School of Management Teaching Excellence Award. 

Greg has consulted with businesses or given presentations in more than 50 countries. He is the past president of the International Accounting Section of the American Accounting Association. In 2008-2009, he was appointed the Academic Fellow in the Division of Corporation Finance at the Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to receiving his Ph.D., he was a senior manager with KPMG and spent two years on an international rotation living and working in Southeast Asia. Greg and his wife, Mirial, have five children and six grandchildren.

Holger Erchinger, KPMG LLP

Holger Erchinger is an audit partner with KPMG LLP in New York and the Partner in Charge of the U.S. Germany Corridor within KPMG’s International Business Corridors and also serves as the IFRS topic team leader in KPMG’s U.S. national office in New York. 

Holger has been with KPMG for 24 years working in various KPMG offices in the United States and in Germany providing audit and audit-related services related to capital market transactions including IPOs and debt offerings, cross-border mergers and acquisitions, accounting conversion and advisory services, and SEC filings and reporting.

Holger also serves on the Advisory Board of the International Association of Accounting and Education Research (IAAER), the G-20Y Association, and the German Banking Institute and is speaking as guest lecturer on a regular basis at Universities and conferences. Holger is a U.S. Certified Public Accountant licensed in the State of New York and State of Colorado as well as a German Certified Public Accountant. Holger studied business administration and earned a PhD in Economics.

Brett James, International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board

Brett James is a Deputy Director of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board. In that role, he has been involved in projects addressing estimates, quality control, other information, and assurance engagements among others. His past experience includes roles with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, the Australian Auditing and Assurance Standards Board and PricewaterhouseCoopers. 


Katherine Schipper, Past President, International Association for Accounting Education and Research

Katherine Schipper is the Thomas F. Keller Professor of Business Administration at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. Ms. Schipper holds a BA degree from
the University of Dayton, MBA, MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago and honorary degrees from Notre Dame University, the Norwegian School of
Economics, Singapore Management University and the Stockholm School of Economics.  Prior to joining Duke University’s faculty, she was a member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).  She has also been a faculty member at Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Chicago.

Ms. Schipper has published research papers in financial reporting, corporation finance and corporate governance. She is a frequent speaker on matters related to international accounting convergence, financial reporting standard setting and financial reporting quality.  She has been named the American Accounting Association’s Outstanding Educator and Distinguished International Lecturer, and has been elected to the Accounting Hall of Fame. She has served the American Accounting Association as Director of Research, as President and as President of the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section.   She is or has been a member of the governing boards of a public company, a mutual fund and a not-for-profit entity.

 

David Simko, EY

Partner at EY has over 35 years of experience and is currently a part of the Global Assurance Standards, Methodology, and Implementation group, which is responsible for monitoring global standard-setting activity and developing appropriate guidance and enablers to support the effective and efficient implementation of these standards. His current role has been focused on representing Global Professional Practice in the design and development of EY Atlas and in the leading the preparation activities of relevant technical accounting and auditing content for Atlas. He has also been in a variety of learning roles throughout this career, including serving as EY’s global and US audit learning leader and has significant experience in the design, development, and delivery of audit learning programs. 

He was a member of the International Accounting Education Standards Board (IAESB) from January 2013 to December 2018 and represented the IAESB on the Professional Skepticism Working Group (PSWG). He currently serves as a technical advisor to the IAESB and is a member of the International Accounting Education Transition Advisory Group (IAETAG).

He has an MBA and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Dayton. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, where he is a former member of the AICPA Council and Nominating Committee, and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he is a former Chair of the Executive Board and various committees.

 

Ann Tarca, International Accounting Standards Board

Ann Tarca joined the International Accounting Standards Board from the University of Western Australia’s Business School, where she was an accounting teacher and researcher since 1996 and a professor since 2011.

Professor Tarca served as a member of the Australian Accounting Standards Board (AASB) from 2014 to 2017 and was research director for the AASB from February 2017. She was an academic fellow of the IFRS Foundation from 2011 to 2012. She has authored a text book on accounting and written a wide range of research papers related to IFRS Standards, for which she has received many awards. Professor Tarca is an active member of the international accounting academic community, having served on several boards and committees.

She qualified as a chartered accountant in 1985 and has a PhD in accounting from the University of Western Australia.
