Matt Jacques is the Chief Accountant of the SEC’s Division of Enforcement having returned to the agency in October 2018.  He had previously served as a senior forensic accountant in the SEC’s Boston Regional Office from 2007 to 2013.  He has over two decades of experience as a public accountant, regulator, expert witness and forensic accountant.  Mr. Jacques has led teams conducting complex forensic investigations in high-profile accounting, securities, anti-corruption and other financial matters.  Prior to his time at the SEC, he worked as managing director at an international advisory firm and a forensic accountant at public accounting firm, where he was engaged by counsel to provide technical accounting expertise in investigations and litigation.  He began his career in public accounting as an auditor.

Mr. Jacques is a certified public accountant, certified fraud examiner and holds an accounting degree from the University of Notre Dame.

Session title: The Business Valuation and Financial Forensics Landscape—A Bird’s Eye View from Practice

Brien began his two-year tenure as Vice President-Practice for the AAA’s Forensic Accounting Section in 2020. He has dedicated a quarter century of his professional career supporting the global busines valuation, financial forensics, and related financial advisory profession through his work with the National Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (NACVA) and its global affiliate the Global Association of Certified Valuators and Analysts (GACVA). Pioneering the global profession, NACVA launched the first business valuation credential, the Certified Valuation Analysts (CVA) in 1991, and the first financial forensics credential, the Master Analyst in Financial Forensic (MAFF) in 2000. Notably, the CVA is dually accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the National Commission for Certifying Agencies, one of seven professional certifications in the world to hold dual accreditation, and the only professional certification accredited in the accounting/finance profession. Approaching 6,000 credential designs and members worldwide, NACVA|GACVA is the largest and fastest growing professional association exclusively supporting the business valuation and financial forensics profession. In his role as Chief Operations Officer and Executive Vice President he directs initiatives and enacts strategies to maintain the highest quality in professional certifications and continuing professional education; promulgate global professional standards, ethics, and best practices; foster strategic alliances within the accounting, legal, academic, regulatory, and business communities; engage the public and professionals to find qualified analysts through the NACVA|GACVA public directory; and to expand benefits and services for his association members and the profession at large. He is particularly dedicated to building bridges between academia and practice calling greater attention to the opportunities university students and faculty have to build and grow successful careers and practices in the financial valuation profession.
